Most residents of the state are aware of Illinois’s proud literary heritage. What may be less obvious is that Illinois continues to be the home of many important poets, novelists, and playwrights. They may
live down the street or in the next town over, but right here, in our own backyard, not just in Chicago but througout the state, Illinois writers are continuing to produce literature that is published, read, and talked
about throughout the state, nation, and world.
The Unit for Contemporary Literature has assembled a group of Illinois writers whose books have been recently published or are about to appear. Nationally prominent, award-winning authors, whom you may have
heard of but did not realize were from our state, these writers are also accomplished performers and skilled teachers who have worked with readers and audiences of various ages, backgrounds, and interests.
